As Jason was walking down the street he heard footsteps behind him. Reading about the serial killer stalking the streets of Durban killing young gay men, he starts walking faster. He knew walking home this time of evening wouldn’t be a good idea, but William, his partner was too drunk to drive and he didn’t want to pick a fight for the keys.
As he sees his house's gates he starts running towards it. He fondles with the keys at the front door and drops them. A dark figure picks the keys up from the porch. Jason starts to tremble. His mouth goes dry. The stranger unlocks his door and hands the keys to him. Jason is too stunned to move. The figure is also just standing still. Jason wishes that he left the porch light on.
Jason starts thinking about what he can and must do not to alert the stranger of his distrust. He decides to enter the house as fast as possible and lock the door. The stranger stood in silence until Jason’s hand touched the knob. Then the stranger turned around and started walking to the front gate. A relieved Jason enters the house and locks the door. As Jason started walking the power went out. He fondles with the switch with no response.
Jason is going out of his mind at this point and starts moving towards the front door. He can’t find the keys. Suddenly he hears keys in the lock. Jason is contemplating his early death. Jason tries to be as quite as a mouse. He starts crawling towards the steps leading to the bedrooms. Moving inch by inch he sails like a snake to his bedroom. He locks himself in and starts dialing William on his cell phone. Williams’ voice mail comes on. Jason's heart rate is skyrocketing as he fears for his life and dials the metro cops.
He moves from the bedroom to the on suite. Keeping calm and not switching on the lights.
Trembling from head to toe, he dials William again. William again doesn’t pick up and Jason leaves him a message. Jason realizes William is too drunk to be of any help. He then decides to stop being a coward and face this stranger in his home. He unlocks the safe and removes Williams’ revolver. He only knows how to take the safety off and pull the trigger. He hates guns. He unlocks the bedroom door.
Keeping close to the wall as possible he moves down the stairs. Just as his eyes starting to adjust to the darkness, he sees the dark figure with a flashlight going through drawers. He takes aim and shouts:”freeze!” The figure starts running towards the door Jason fires and hits the figure in the leg.
The stranger starts yelling:”stop Jason stop. ”Jason realizes that the stranger is William. He calls the emergency services. The sound of the sirens was like music to Jason’s ears, for he was still in shock about Williams’ behaviour.
The next morning a loud bang on the door revealed to be a squad to search his home.
Just as they started uncovering evidence of William being the serial killer, Jason receives a call from William:”I escaped and you are next.”
