you came
silently you appeared from the pages
of my childhood fairytales
storybooks with bent corners
and yellowed memories
caught between two ancient covers
from there you came
into my everyday reality
to make me believe what I thought was myth
my own modern day tale of happily ever after.
you bowed down in front of me
with offers of spoken words and candlelight
small promises from the heart
like a knight of olden days you came
bringing with you enchanted places
and glimpses of a world I never thought existed
outside of my imagination.
and you filled that world for me
coloured it in with the corners of your mouth
outlined and traced it with your rose petal hands
made it real by holding me at sunset
showing me miracles with the break of day
a shimmer of stardust you leave behind.
like a knight of olden days you came
slaying my fears and conquering me
saving me from a life trapped in the highest tower
and darkest dungeons of being me
take me to your far away castle
and plant me a garden of rambling red roses.
this is a new chapter of my life
a story you could read me
every night before I go to bed
listening to your slow caring voice
looking at the pictures of heroes and dragons
seeing the written words spoken by you
the last words I hear before my reality slumbers.
and in the morning I wake up
dreaming with starry eyes wide open
thoughts of you rest in my mouth
perceptions of you caught in my hair
memories of you stuck in my hands
and I start to believe again
all because you came along.
