there were open skies
and clear stars

one night
not long ago
we laughed with your friends

that night I stared in awe
at the giraffe
so close I could touch
her beauty

that night
you shared dreams
under the stars
by the dam

that night
I knew
that I could not deny
the love I felt
and vowed to give everything
forever
that you were all & more
than I ever dreamt to have

that night

was the closest I ever came

to believe in absolute
magic

today the message cried
the giraffe’s baby died
and every memory
I try so hard to forget
crash my lungs
waters my eyes

if I knew that night
what I know now
I’d still spend every second with you
the way I did

I’ll never regret loving you
that’s why it hurts more
than before
that’s why
I can’t look
the world in the eye
that’s why it’s hard to breath
that’s why
I’m so terrible mad
at everything and everyone
most of all me
but not at you

I can’t stop loving you
or forget
guess my forever
really has your name
graphitized all over my heart
