You were the chosen one
Chosen to be the first king
To rule fairly and justly over God’s people
A bold, leader confident and strong to be
First, you obeyed God in everything
Then your own will became more important
Than obeying God’s commandments and will
Evil became your master in it all
Rebellion became the sword in your hand
To destroy things willed by God
God turned His face from you
Then you became the abanded one
Away from the love and protection of God
God removes the crown from your head
And from all your sons and descendants to be
Another is chosen to rule God’s people
Death awaited you and your entire household
