sword crosses sword
sparks fly off the hostile, cold surfaces
your words against mine
clashing, measuring the impact
cling clang cling clang
every sentence a battle
my words fall to the ground,
disfigured, wounded
exactly what I did not mean
precisely what I did not want to say.
and your words
lies smouldering between hot ashes
gusts of hot ashes
swirl around my heart and head
and the soldiers are tired
weary; oh so tired of warfare
they want to go home
get out of the never ending trenches.
there where it’s warm and happy (oh I remember)
a space that feels familiar (I have been there before)
there were words mean comfort, understanding
were the words of loved ones
envelop you in a peace
and gives you a place to belong
where you can put the horrors of battle
the dangers of war
out of your mind,
out of your nightmarish sleep
and rest
