Years of pain and isolation, living like a hermit
in darkness, bound by invisible locks and chains,
every single day, a journey into the depths of hell,
tears wept by the gallon, he stares with blind eyes
into the nothingness of the pale, unrelenting future.
What is to be, is there life beyond this door?
pray so, darkness and loneliness destroys
a soul filled with immeasurable love, a passion
for life, to live rather than to claim mere existence.
By grace, a new dawn shone brilliantly, no pain
to dull the smell of rain, a raging new life permitted
to a lost soul, reaching out to the bright rays of hope,
glistening in the gold of a new dawn, vibrantly alive.
God opened unseeing eyes, healed devastating pain
and opened a new world, covered in brilliant colours
and the wisp and tender fragrance of flowers in bloom,
a star, so beautiful to fill the silent darkness of doom.
Alas, beauty once more destroyed.
To taste life alone, winter cold, holds
no victory over the darkness of life.
