sleeping under the southern cross
speaks to my heart
I watch in awe
The endless vistas
the extraordinary creatures
like nowhere else on earth
Flamboyant rosellas flashing red blue and green
on boughs of trees evergreen
Clouds of brilliant parakeets
feeding in open savannahs
as wide as those of Africa
Lovable flat faced budgies tug at my heart
beckoning to come and live there
in that good and tranquil land
The program draws to an end
the credits roll
The lens zooms in on Africa:
a thousand hooves thunder over the Serengeti
a fish eagle’s primeval call pierces the air
over the Okavango
I close my eyes
my heart beats – a tribal drum
aches for Africa!
