how to scribe an ode to you
long after you have been robbed from here
and your memory are still to haunt us..
is there a manner to weigh the loss of you
so to truly harness the magnitude
of the moments unlived that taunt us
you were the friend, the father, the love
and bereft of you, we, through time
have grown to understand how much
we needed to hold on to the moment’s chapter
when you were lent to us
for each a reason and a rhyme
have learned greatly at your hand in our lives
that today we may stand together
in gratitude for the part
you have played in our lives
sharing, oceans apart, still
the changing tide you brought to our hearts
do I hold within me the words to use
to truly portray the man you were
and make sense of all the questions
which echoes in our minds
how do I begin to even give voice
yielding the sorrow of your loss
and rejoice in your life
and the memory of you
casting my mind over the time that we have spent
brings back the joy and vitality
you spread around you
the warmth you were to radiate
the essence of your being
the care you illustrated
and the honour you instilled
our fond moments and memories of you
linger peaceful within our minds
rest easy in the hallways of our past
as we, the ones left behind
find solace in the mere thought
in the privilege, still unsurpassed…
we were the fortunate ones
for being close to you
