What a sad state of affairs…
That people hate each other
But they love money and power
That parents do not spend more time with their children
But more time at the office
That people lie to each other
Without blinking or thinking
What a sad state of affairs…
That the poor get more, and poorer
That the rich get less, and richer
There’s no sharing and caring
What a sad state affairs…
Families break up and there’s war between husband and wife
Children have problems to identify
Because there are too many fathers and mothers
Because there are movie stars to set the trend
What a sad state of affairs…
People are hungry for love and acceptance
But they do not get to know God
People long to hear about forgiveness
But all they hear and see are about hate and an eye for an eye
What a sad state of affairs…
That more and more people are dying of AIDS
That crime, murder and rape are increasing
And interest rates are falling
What a sad state of affairs….
That government is powerful
But trade unions are more powerful
That we can’t feed the hungry
But we can build powerful weapons of mass destruction
What a sad state of affairs….
That we don’t allow God to be in control
But try to be in control ourselves
That we don’t love more, but less
That we don’t believe in God, but disbelieve
That we break down, but don’t build up
That we allow others to decide on our behalf
And allow them to run our lives
That the old people are alone
And the young die young from drug abuse
What a sad state of affairs…
That alcohol and tobacco are our friends
That viruses infect people and machines.
But cures are slow and far between
What a sad state of affairs….
That houses get bigger
And families smaller
That traffic gets slower, cars faster
And tempers quick and violent
What a sad state of affairs….
We keep on trying to fit an hour into five minute
We eat fast foods and compete in the rat race
We get fat and cholesterol runs amok
Heart disease strike early
And stress takes its toll
We try to manage our time
Ending up with less and not more
What a sad state of affairs….
Why – because we’ve decided,
Because we want to be in control
Because we want to be king of the castle
Because we hurt
Because we hate
Because we pushed God out of government
Because God’s no longer welcome in our schools and universities
Because God’s no longer part of our family
Because our hearts grew cold
Because we want to be in control
Because we miss God, but we deny it
What a sad state of affairs….!
