For hours she sits
as one cast in stone,
hoping the room temperature
won’t raise goose flesh on her legs.
The stubborn nub of nipple
reveals her lack of clothes
or perhaps the merest flickering
of dormant lust
lost in memories
of twenty years ago
when what he saw was slimmer,
firmer than the fullness of her now:
profile to catch the tilt
of nose and lift of chin,
frontal
to show
the lushness of breasts
and a dark tuft of hair.
But when she stands,
from behind
the spiral staircase of her backbone
draws his eyes
to the keyhole of desire,
the narrow opening
between her upper thighs.
A shaft of light falls through.
