Out of the deep darkness of insecurity
into the light
of fame and success
that is our constant fight
with eyes focused
on the heavens and
the prize
we run and rage
making a living each day
pushing and pulling
we forget
the smell of homemade bread
bacon and eggs in bed
deadline and quotas
the sound of wind in
the trees
the joys of being free
to tired to dream
to tired to scream
to wasted to care
to busy to smell the air
we justify our unending fight
to our loved ones
each and every night
our heart crying wanting to explode
but we are too tired to unload
we have traded the love of our home
for a fortress of lost souls and stone
the devil smiles
he has won
the taking of our humanity is done
so what we do instead
we shuffle off to bed
we have to rest
tomorrow we must be the best .
