You asked me to dance
shyly at first, you taught me
to twirl and to turn
and slowly, I took a chance
Although a bit of me died
I stood next to you when we buried my pride.
and in the wake of the funeral,
we ran, we laughed and boy did we hide!
Now you want me to be
yet another version of me
I read between your lines
until they screamed, I lied!
Still I trusted me
but you never even tried...
When you told me to survive
Oh, I thought I could do that too
find my own way in life
anything for a little thank you...
that never came...
just more blame.
You lied me to believe
then asked me to forgive
not to ask so bloody much
and with my softest touch
I trusted once again that
I lightened the grief
Now you want me to be
yet another version of me
You needed to hold on to hoping
asked me to be strong
knowing it was wrong
and no, I agree, it is no way of coping
so you wished I were dead
and I thought of you
imagined your smile...
I wanted to die desperately too
so peacefully I laid down my head.
Now you want me to be
yet another version of me
Your choices I respected
but you had me resurrected
to help carry the load
despite my shame
you heaped more blame.
You never asked one thing:
You never asked how I was?
You ask one more thing
someone to be your “friend only”
tell me,
is survivor’s guilt that lonely?
Now you want me to be
yet another version of me
I miss you more than I can ever say
but believe that?
I tried, there is no way!
