I saw her again today, at the corner of the street,
Sitting on a wooden crate, tomatoes at her feet,
A bowl on her lap, full of beads and twine;
“Would you mind it I sit down for a while?”
I watched her skilled hands, a beautiful neckpiece being made.
Sat down, asked if she would teach me her trade.
She handed me some beads and I lost track of time,
In broken English she told me her life story,
In broken Sepedi I told her mine.
We shared laughs and tears while doing peyote stiches;
Moments like these make life worthwhile – it enriches.
I met an extraordinary woman today; im never letting her go.
She gave me something I lost long ago.
Somewhere between sharing our joys, troubles and pain
She made me feel alive again…
