When I finish your sentences, is it rude and unfair?
I give you two answers to choose do you mind or not care?
I try to make it easier for you and for me,
Although I know that my efforts won’t set you free.
I feel bad when I can’t understand what your lips try to say,
As I lean closer, I worry that my breath is okay.
The way you communicate is through gestures, smiles and tears,
If only I had the power to chase away all your fears.
I will always carry your glass and your cup of tea too,
To help you to do what your hands cannot do.
I’ll be your voice and your limbs and help you to cope.
How do you keep going and not give up hope?
Your mind is still fine while your body wastes away
You have a sad disease called ALS and it’s here to stay!
Your speech steadily worsens and you battle to swallow,
How long before the muscles used for breathing go?
You must know that on the day I’ll be there for you,
I’m your friend ‘till the end – I will always love you!
When do you get to the point that you wish it were done?
So that all your strife and struggles at last will be gone.
I would love nothing else but to find you a cure,
Because for you to suffer so isn’t right – that’s for sure!
