Once I knew the happiness of the sunshine
And was not tormented by the memories
That persist to remind me of times
That could have been
The nights once filled with the joyful talk and laughter of friends
Now only bring sadness and loneliness
My joy seems to fade with the receding sunlight
And the loneliness persists like a clawing beast
in the prison of my mind
And cannot even be relieved by the sunshine
Chasing away the darkness of the night
But never that of my soul
I must accept the lot which my own thought
My own understanding, if not my comprehension
Has savagely pushed onto me
And must learn to live with the fear
The loneliness, the yearning, the anger,
And the helplessness
Which is not brought on by the night
But by the never-ending torture
of my thoughts
