Words swirling around my throat
Choking and slicing all I can be
My voice can’t mangle you anymore
Shaping and forming someone you can’t be
A contorted version of someone more
Let’s unclamp our fractured fists
Untie the knots of our joined fingers
We’ve sliced our hands on to many attempts
Fastened plasters on to many failures
Melodies and lyrics can’t bring us back
Dancing with you doesn’t make my heart thrash
Lingering in the doorway won’t make you apologise
Grazing past you doesn’t comfort me
Eyes without bedazzlement
With undamaged souls
And complete lives
