Like a poison,
oozing out of my brain
drips the thoughts;
thoughts of mistakes
made long ago,
haunting me in days past;
haunting me still.
For it is like a poison
spreading through my body:
paralyzing every muscle,
paralyzing every hope.
At times it becomes unbearable,
for I am slowly dying,
yet I still live...
People look at me:
some in admiration –
looking for guidance;
other in disgust –
because I am different;
yet nobody knows my inner desires,
the war raging within...
Nobody knows how frequently I wish
to turn back the hands of time,
to undo my mistakes in years gone by.
In me live duplicity:
a battle between good and evil;
and I;
I am caught in the middle.
Can’t it just stop!?
Can’t the storm go away!?
So that peace can reign,
once again;
even for a short while...
Can’t I just banish my thoughts
to the never-ending abyss!?
So that they won’t haunt me anymore.
Can’t I just live...?
