Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son is an American film starring the well-known Mark Lawrence. It is a comedy. The film is about an FBI agent, Malcolm Turner (played by Lawrence) who goes on an undercover mission. Turner’s son, Trent, is drawn into the events and this causes great tension from the onset, since both father and son has to work undercover. Malcolm’s cover is of course “Big Momma” and that of his son is “Charmaine”. Charmaine has to join a school of arts for girls in the process, which causes him a great amount of trouble but also a great opportunity to win over the girl of his dreams, who also happen to be in the school of arts and obviously ends up being one of “Charmaine’s” friends.
The great thing (and possibly also the bad thing) about films like these is that you are most likely going to get exactly that what you expect. It is a typical American film. There are lots of fun and funny scenes. Although I expected a few more action scenes, seeing that it is Mark Lawrence, one has to keep in mind that the main aim of this film is to be funny. The whole concept of Big Momma, one can imagine, was created for the purpose of being funny, and that this film surely is. Not the most funniest film ever, but it does really provide a few good laughs.
One should not expect more than this from Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. The storyline is crazy and unrealistic. The characters are tailor made. They fit into every scene as a sausage into a hot dog bun. But this is the type of film you want to see after a long hard week in order to wind down and relax. It is a feel good film. It is not meant for serious intellectual people who are not in the mood for crazy American comedy and the film should be judged accordingly. 7/10
