Leon Schuster does not make films for the critics, and thank God for that! In Shucks Tsabalala’s survival guide to South Africa, Schuster returns to his roots of pulling pranks on strangers as well as on famous people. It has been said that the movie aims to ask questions about who we are as South Africans. This may well be so. I senced it in the many pranks with the racism angle. But the important aspect of this film is that it is funny. Some of the famous people caught on camera includes Helen Zille and Alan Boesak. Shucks digs deep in this film to produce a real feel good product in typical Shucks style. If you typically do not enjoy his work, this film should be avoided, but otherwise this film is defenitley a must see. It is full of colour and music, and filled with many of the wonderful faces that has bestowed upon our country the title of rainbow nation.
