On whose payroll are you? Is it the company you work for or are you self-employed and making your own way? Let us look at the differences and you can decide on whose payroll you want to be.
1) A company or your own effort.
Working for a company or for yourself, without a life in Christ (faith), means that you are relying on people to pay you. You know that every month you will get a certain amount of money. You can budget and you are not actually living in faith. The only faith might be in the security that you have, working for the company or in your own ability to do whatever you do! You never get ahead, and you always struggle to make ends meet. Your pay check is 8 inches long and you have to stretch it to last a month. You get into a rut, going to work, going home, eat, sleep, month end and pay check, broke and then you start all over again.
You say things like; “one day when I’m big, I’ll……” when you want something that you cannot afford because it is just too much for your budget. You talk about your dreams and with the realization that in the situation that you currently find yourself, you will never be able to realize any, except talking about them! Through many years of many generations, the lie has become the perceived truth for most of us. We accept it as a sad fact, and it is part of the tradition passed on over the generations. This is living a in a lie which has become the truth. Most people are caught in this and seemingly with no way out! Slaving away for the best years of their life, this just to survive, just to raise the children, to provide for, housing, clothes and education with an occasional holiday. Living on the edge – of bankruptcy! You live and work, just to receive your ‘tip-slip’ and relying on the company to provide. Working all the time for someone else’s dream, living actually in poverty, just above the breadline and barely making ends meet, you decide, you make your choices!
Trusting in people – you have to question the sanity of this type of trust, of this ‘slavery’ and living your life in a rutted lie.
2) God’s payroll
It is easy to be on God’s payroll. It is a decision that you make, it is a step of faith and for most of us it will be a HUGE step of faith. It will scare most of us and that is one of the reasons that we do not want to be on God’s payroll. This means that we need to trust God for everything. Not so easy when we look at the paradigm that we grow up in, the lie that gets passed on through generation and generation. We read of people who got blessed by God, we hear stories and in awe we think to ourselves that it would be nice to be able to live like that. We actually long to have the ‘wonders’ of God in our life’s, to see supernatural things happening. We want God’s blessing on every aspect of our lives, but most times we are too afraid to ask, we will not be specific about the blessing(s) we need, and we will just pray and ask in general, and then we also do not ask in faith, we just ask “if it is Your will…..” Do you pray, and ask in such a way that your words make your prayer powerless? You should not say “if”, you should pray “Thy will be done”! I think that if we knew God better, we would be able to pray with a lot more faith and also be able to receive God’s abundant gifts more easily.
Living and being on God’s payroll is the most rewarding of all. You don’t have to work 12 months to be able to receive a bonus or 13th cheque. God will give you everything you need, He will be giving more abundantly than you can ever imagine. To be on God’s payroll requires faith and what is faith?
F – Faith
A – Asks
I – Impossible
T – Things
H – humbly
This means that we need to be humble before God and men. We need to ask God, trust Him for and with everything! The Bible says – “you don’t have, because you don’t ask”. We need to be in contact with God. This means that we need to be in prayer more often, not only when we are in dire straits. God wants our constant fellowship (2 fellows in one ship), we need to be praising and worshipping God every day, not only on Sundays or when we go to church.
With praise, worship and prayer we move God’s hand. God never planned for us, His children, to want anything. God’s payroll has unlimited funds, unlimited bonuses and it doesn’t pay only at month-end. You can receive daily. God asks of us to put Him first in everything, He also commands us to tithe and that we can test Him in it! Wow, what a wonderful God we have. Why not decide to be on God’s payroll? Why not take a step in faith and trust God for your income – remember that God can provide in many and any way He thinks is best and most appropriate.
In my own life this is also applicable. I was relying on a company, on people to provide for me and my family – at that stage I knew of God, but I didn’t know God. The company went bankrupt and I was without a job, without income. All of a sudden I had to work for myself. The next 15 months was living on faith and throughout all of those months, God provided in abundance for me and my family. We never went to bed lacking anything. Then, from out of the blue, a person, Mike, that I did contract work for, contacted me and asked me to bring my CV to him.
On the day that Mike phoned me, my wife was in prayer, and she was praying to God to provide a job for me, and to put me on Mike’s mind. When Mike phoned me – his words to me were, “Chris, you must have been praying very hard.” To which my answer was – “I always pray”! Well, the power of prayer and the answers of God! I took my CV to Mike and less than a month later, I was working an 18 month contract at a large company. Three days after I started, I received confirmation through our pastor by means of a prophetic word. God gave me favour and He opened doors for me that I could never imagine. About ten months into the contract, people were saying that I did the job and there was nothing left, and that I could and should start looking for something else. I knew God gave me the position and that He wanted me there. The one day I was told that I would get three months salary and a pro-rata portion of my bonus. Three weeks after this news, we were in a meeting, I got put into another position and thus God provided. Mike is in a senior position and God is using him as an instrument. I have been praying everyday for Mike and all the management. Mike is a very powerful man and people hate him for that.
But I know for sure that God is my source, the one who provides in abundance and who never fails. He is always there and He never slumbers nor sleeps, He is never slow to help and never turns a deaf ear to His children’s cries. Being on God’s payroll is more exciting than anything you would ever imagine, it is a constant adventure and it makes you feel alive!!! You stop focusing on where will the money come from, you stop worrying about the noisy negatives, the people talking and gossiping. Your source is not earthly anymore; your Source is the One that ‘pays’ according to what you ask (faith) and not according to what someone else thinks you are worth.
So, on whose payroll do you want to be? The choice is yours. You don’t have to leave your job to be on God’s payroll, you need to make a decision, and you need to take that step in faith!
