So, you got yourself into a little bit of a jam? Well, no, not really, you’re actually pretty OK with this, but everyone around you seems to have a massive problem with your behavior, or should I say lack thereof. Even your mom has shrugged her shoulders and probably have uttered the words: ”You’re on your own!”
You know, you’re really not that odd. Truth be told, there are many like you, and we are surrounded by people all day who are in exactly the same position than you are in right now, and don’t even know it. The difference between you and them, is the fact that you seek help. So, instead of calling this help-guide a booklet for dummies, I’ll assume that your lack of knowledge is merely concentrated to a small number of household tasks that you have been unable to do, master or even maybe have not been given the opportunity to accomplish.
Your luck is about to change. Herewith I do not profess to know it all, nor have the correct terminology, nor do I really know the textbook version of these daily tasks, but you know what, you and I together are going to figure all of this out. The other people in your life have left you to your own reconnaissance and I want to take you by the hand, and lead you to the answers. You are not stupid, so we are not referring to this as a handbook for dummies, but merely a reference guide to help you along in the mundane tasks of your everyday life.
What will we be talking about? Normal stuff, calling them normal everyday names. Face it, if you don’t know how to iron a shirt, it really does not matter what the yolk of the shirt is, or how it is put together. You just want to know how to quick and effectively get through the task of ironing the thing. I am really not planning on boring you with the unimportant stuff, we are about to just call a spade a shovel, or a “thing you dig with”, whichever suits you.
Together we will discuss the small tasks that you normally would feel quite ashamed to ask advice about, or even worse, would evoke quite a reaction from your friends and family every time you would enquire. Remember the last time, your friend asked you to start cooking the rice while she does the meat, and you stood in her kitchen with a blank look on your face, contemplating running out of there with eyes bewildered and ashamed when she asked: “What do you mean you don’t know how to cook rice?” Or the day your boss started giggling and rolled his eyes, when you asked where the vacuumcleaner’s powercable is kept as you did not know it is stowed away onboard? Or your brother asked you to pass the wrench and you suddenly had the urge to pour your coffee on his crotch?
I have good news for you. We will find the answers to all your immediate questions, because you refuse to go through life seemingly helpless and uninformed according to the rest. And why not have some fun along the way? We are definitely not planning to make you the next Martha Stewart, but what we are about to embark on, will help you to empower yourself. And knowledge is power… even if it is just how long an egg should boil, or how to make a delicious meal out of leftovers.
