Firn C. Hyde
Member for 2 years 6 months 3 weeks 5 days 3 hours More about Firn C. Hyde
I am Firn C. Hyde, a twelve-year-old homeschooler and writer of varied materials, especially animals and fantasy. When I was six I wrote my first story, which went: 'one day there was a pig namd babe he was firn's pig she love him she had a dog namd fluffy she love himto', though at the time my actual dog was called Flower. When I was ten I had written my first novel, Pinto. By the time I was eleven it had already been rejected twice by two different publishers, so I decided to send in another one; my first fantasy novel, finished in November 2008 and finally revised in June 2009. My latest novel, My Best Friend is a Werewolf, is my eighth. It joins a collection of countless short stories, essays, and poems.
I like the short story and free verse but my favourite form of writing is the novel. My favourite writers include James Herriot, the hilarious Terry Pratchett and C. S. Lewis. My favourite book is definitely The Chronicles of Narnia and besides that Pratchett's wonderful Discworld series and all of Herriot's books. I'm also something of an amateur folklorist and love all British legends, especially King Arthur. I firmly believe in magic, no matter how many pompous grownups peer down their noses at me and say, "Hmmm."
I like to write about unicorns, werewolves, winged hounds and anything that has more than one shape. Vampires interest me (but mostly as villains!).
We live on a farm with a lot of animals. Most people think I'm mad (especially my dad, who calls me That Nauthor) but hey, better mad than boring...
So have a peek at my stories and see if you like them.
I own the copyright on ALL my work.
The painting above is one of my watercolours of a she-werewolf named Ulrica who was a hero in one of my novels. The photograph is of my greyhound Hope and I.
