the passion for my mother tongue, afrikaans, knows no borders, although sometimes I find it easier to express myself in the slow moving rhythms of English; sometimes the words flow better, sometimes the english counterpart captures an image with more feeling. especially when it comes to matters of the heart - i find my pen writing english instead of the earthy afrikaans that lives in my soul.
I am 27 years old and running the rat race in cape town. I have completed my masters degree in Afrikaans and Dutch Literature at the University of Utrecht. But my heart belongs to the southern tip of Africa.
this will be the first time that I share my poems with a broader audience, and is thus for me a huge challenge, but even more than just that - its an escape of the words which so often keeps one captive.
