Genealogy, the study or investigation of ancestry and family history, I love it! Although I am not a professional I write it and record it as well as I can.
I have spent many challenging and stimulating hours in the Government Archives and Government Libraries searching for information. Everything that I have found has been faithfully documented. It is like an enormous jigsaw puzzle, and there is still so much to be discovered and fitted together.
Genealogy helps us to identify with our spiritual values, cultures, and traditions of our predecessors. Knowledge of our ancestors and our bond with them create healthy pride in Family and Nation. Our spiritual heritage forms the foundation on which every society is built and the loss of it leads to total collapse.
In other words we are history and history disappears if we don’t document it, so write your life!
You know that you’re addicted to Genealogy if…
You brake every time you drive past libraries or Archives.
You hyperventilate at the sight of an old Cemetery.
You fall in love with old Churches and historical buildings.
You pack your clothes under your bed because your cupboard is full of papers and books.
Family tree branches are too short.
You’d rather trace Ancestors than clean the house.
You introduce your mother as your Ancestor and your kids as your Descendants.
I just love the following poem by J.M. Bacher:
“My arms reach out through time and space
And hold each memory in place.
A creaking a whispered word,
A promise only night winds heard.
A little footstep on the stair,
A small fragmented baby prayer.
My arms reach out through time and space,
And do not find an empty place.”
