I remember when we went to choose a boxer puppy and there were so many to choose from. Suddenly this rugged little one caught old of my hand and her beautiful eyes looked up at me and seemed to say: “Pick me…pick me I’m the little one!”
Of course we brought you home with us and you were so small and cute with your little paws that seemed too large for your body and those funny floppy ears. You bounced around the house as if you had always been here and Friedel was not at all impressed with this little brat.
As small as what you were you hardly messed in the house but obediently followed old Friedel to the garden.
The passion you had for life then was with you until the day you died. The world was your oyster and you enjoyed every single minute of your life.
To stop you from chewing our shoes and furniture I had to keep a permanent supply of “squeaky toys” for you in your toy box that still stands in the lounge now.
As you got older, you protected us by looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by.
When we had a tough day, you would be waiting at the gate for us with your tail wagging (no, actually your whole body wagging) just to say, "I love you remember, I’m the little one!”
We could always count on you to be there for me and keep me laughing. Whenever we sat down to watch TV, you would hop on the couch next us, leaning against us looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than for us to pat your head, stroke and hug you so that you could go to sleep with your head on our lap. That is the loveliest feeling in the world!
Putting your dog out of it’s misery or pain is one of the kindest things a person can but, but also one of the saddest!
Memories are great I’ve been told but today we don’t want memories we only want you! If our love alone could have saved you, you would still be here today, because as dearly as we loved you when you were alive, in death we love you still.
Our little family chain is missing a link and losing you today has left us all with a gaping hole in our hearts that feels like it will never heal.
I know that the pain becomes more bearable with time, and the joy with which you filled our lives will be with us forever, but I’ll repeat what I’ve said before and it’s this: “Today we don’t want memories; today we just want you!”
Little One, thank you for the happiness you brought and for taking care of us. we miss you Sweetie Pie!
