Every day I return from visiting my MIL in hospital and I feel depressed. There is so much heartache in the world and so many people have to endure terrible pain and suffering before death finally comes to put them out of their misery.
It brings to mind the eternal questions: “What is the meaning of life, what are we expected to do, and why is fate such a bitch?”
What is the meaning of life? Don’t ask me, I don’t have a clue, but here is what I think.
Life is there to be lived I suppose, and in spite of all the sadness and hurt it is a beautiful thing. To me the meaning of life is to travel the path that is destined for you and doing the best you can possibly do. I think that we are expected to give of our love and of ourselves and to spread kindness and joy wherever we go. It’s not easy and we will make mistakes, but we should learn from those mistakes and teach others what we know. Life is about taking responsibility for our own health, happiness and success and not blaming others for our failures. It’s about earning respect and returning a kindness. It’s about courage and perseverance and finding strength and compassion through our own suffering. Finally I think it’s all about Faith and gratitude for all the blessings that allow us to shine with joy!
Let’s face it, fate really is a bitch, in a flash like a bolt of lightning fate blasts through your life and destroys your future and leaves you empty and desolate and there is nothing left… nothing. You cry invisible tears as you are tossed about like a cork on this stormy ocean called life. But this too shall pass and as my sometimes very wise Hubby would say, ‘you can only fall as far as the gutter then you get up brush yourself off and try again.’
If we didn’t feel sadness we would never know happiness; if we didn’t get angry we would never know peace, and if we didn’t trust our hearts we would never know love.
"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
- Stephen Grellet, 1773-1855
