I can’t sleep and the reason for my predicament is simple, it’s my third ear you see I found it by accident.
This third ear referred to as the “middle-ear” by the medical profession is situated in your whole head. Well that’s what it feels like when you have middle-ear infection. Acute Otitis Media, I don’t know what’s so cute about it but there you have it! Take my advice don’t try to locate this third/middle ear it’s a nuisance! It is actually a shape shifter and can transform itself into anything from toothache to neck ache to headache. It affects your hearing so that you have shwishing sounds in your head.
Talking about shwishing sounds makes me think of my mom-in-law whose bulbar (speech) muscles have now almost totally deteriorated and she battles to talk or even to swallow. The fact that I manage to understand almost everything she says is due to this “special calling” that I was given, although I occasionally struggle to understand her too. Tonight she was telling me that because of the cold she felt “shwifft.” I looked at her confused and relied, “shwifft?” She then proceeded to spell it for me. ESH…T…I…M…F. “Shtimf, oh!” I exclaimed, “stiff!” and we both looked at each other and laughed.
It’s a real treat to watch my domestic’s face when the “ou Miesies”asks her for “a cup of hweet ooibof tea and a Marie whisket”.” (Sweet Rooibos tea and a Marie biscuit)
There are a lot of times that hubby and I are reluctant “caregivers’ but we also know that without our intervention my mom-in-law will have no one to help her at this time of her life when she most needs help. There is always a part of me that wishes this were not happening, but I cannot deny that this is who I am and at the moment this is what I do
