They say that time heals all wounds but this is not necessarily true. A suicide in the family is something you don’t get over you just come to terms with it. Sometimes when I least expect it, like when I hear a song play on the radio or something someone says that reminds me of her, I am overcome with grief. My sister committed suicide seventeen years ago and the pain has lessened but it has left a void inside me.
The most difficult time is April 24 when we shared our birthdays. She was the eldest in our family of six kids and I am the youngest, we always joked about it saying that our mother started having children and stopped on the same day ten years apart.
One never gets over a suicide it is a never ending grief!
For My Sister…
You were my sister you were my friend
How did we let you come to this end?
We shared our birthdays although ten years apart
And you were my Angel right from the start.
Not a day passes that I don’t think of you,
And how different it would be if only I knew.
I can’t help but wonder with those left behind
How our strong bond of love couldn’t save you that time.
There’s only the question of WHY? Again and again,
The day you left us filled me with fear and with pain.
Our thoughts leave us empty and feeling alone,
I pray every day that God took you home.
I can’t imagine your feelings of hurt and despair,
But I hope that you know Sis, how much I do care!
I look to the heavens and ask God above
To take all your pain and replace it with love.
