My little granddaughter is a magic shining baby who laughs easily and delightedly. I can spend hours just looking at this little miracle. It’s not because she is my first grandchild, she’s actually my fourth “real” grandchild, but the last of the dozen we have accumulated so far. I am not comparing her to the others because all of them are precious and irreplaceable, and just as they are unique, so is she. K came into this world as “K” she was not like any of the others. Just after she was born they took her down to the baby room screaming blue murder and shivering from the cold. I looked at her and softly I greeted her, “Hello my little one it’s me your Grandmere.” She opened her big eyes they seemed to say, “Hello, I am your granddaughter, love me.” And I do!
Why I’m being so sentimental tonight is because tomorrow she celebrates her first birthday. What gift can I take to that little thing that will offset the joy she has brought to my life? Love, love and more love! And a huge great present of course! What a pleasure it is to hear the squeals of delight and to see the excitement in that little face as she tears open her gift.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; Grandchildren are a gift from above sent to restore our zest for life and our faith in humanity. Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, (Proverbs 17:16).
